The 5th wheel on The View will be the clincher
Yesterday as you know was Rosie O'Donnell's first day on The View. I thought getting Rosie on board was one of those ungettable "gets," but if anyone could pull of something like that, it would be Barbara Walters.
My first impression of the new crew Rosie, Barbara, Joy, and Elisabeth is one of hesitation. Right off the bat it feels like Rosie, Barbara, and "Dawn", "The News", "The Pips", pick a band who's name starts with the star and ends with the back-up singers. Joy and Elisabeth are not bad hosts, they just don't have the chutzpah presence on screen, nor are they as loud as Rosie. Rosie literally has an audibly loud voice, and easily over talks any of the other ladies.
The other interesting dynamic going on is the Castle builder vs. the brick layers. Rosie and Barbara are "Castle builders" and Joy and Elisabeth are "Brick layers." What does that mean you ask? Castle builders are the kind of people who are naturally visionary, creative, leader-types, risk-takers, and independents. Brick layers are those who like to follow, are task oriented, group-oriented, and always play by the rules. Neither position is better than the other. It's just different ways of thinking and behaving, and you need both in order to have any kind of successful venture.
Barbara is not always on the show, so on the days she's off, Rosie will just naturally lead the pack because that is her nature. This is where I think whomever is chosen to take Star Jones' seat will have to be a strong personality and another Castle Builder type but one that is complimentary to Rosie.
If you missed it, here's the opening of yesterday's show:
