A girlfriend asked me the other day if Yoga could be considered cardio because in cardio you get your heart pumping and you do a whole lotta breathing, and there are more vigorous forms of yoga where you do feel your heart working hard and you do tons of breathing. I mean breathing and yoga is like pizza and cheese. Okay, perhaps bad food analogy, but you get what I mean.
I did not know the answer so I asked the yoga experts I know over at FitSugar, and the ladies have this very informative post, "Will yoga help me lose weight?" In this post, they also answer the question of whether Bikram yoga, the form where you do yoga in sauna like temperature, can help you burn more calories because you're sweating like a pig roasting on a fire.
I took a Bikram class once, believe it or not, as a work team building exercise with a group of geeky engineers. Yeah, can you sense the love. It was a great workout but really I'd rather go build boats out of cardboard and duct tape than sweat like Steve Ballmer at a developer's conference with my co-workers.
