Britain looking into banning runway models under 16 years old

The Model Health Inquiry of London is advising the British Fashion Council, organizers of London's Fashion Week held in September, to ban any models under the age of 16 to strut the catwalks.

Panel chairwoman Baroness Kingsmill stated:

  "We have been given startling medical evidence about the prevalence and impact of eating disorders in certain high-risk industries...There was also strongly expressed concern that it is profoundly inappropriate that girls under 16 under the age of consent should be portrayed as adult women...The risk of sexualising these children was high and designers could risk charges of sexual exploitation."

Of course, the British Fashion Council will accept this advisement and make it clear that no designer can hire models under 16. This is a no-brainer because even though the Council won't put a stake in the ground about instituting a weight or BMI limit, they will comply with an age limit because who wants to tread the child endangerment tight rope or risk being called a child perv. The fashionistas may not care much about the health of too skinny adults but they most certainly will bend when it comes to avoiding jail bait.
