Is Glamour's "Don'tspotting: Worst Dont's" mean?

Dontspotting On their website, Glamour magazine has a "Don'tspotting" section where you and I, the general public, can add our own sightings of fashion Do's and Dont's via cell phone or computer. This gallery is an interesting peek into what the readers of Glamour think is fashionable and what is not.

One of the categories of Don'tspotting is "Worst Dont's" and when you peruse through the pictures you will quickly notice that the majority of "fashion don't" criminals are overweight to obese women in body revealing outfits. There are some men in Speedos, but as a whole, there are very few thin or slender women whom the uploaders deem "Worst Don't." The underlying message then is that being overweight is inclusive of not being fashionable.

It's apparent that most of the women in the "Worst Don'ts" lineup have no idea that their picture is being taken and then uploaded to Glamour's website to be rated and then viewed by millions of people. I say apparent because 1. most shots are from behind and 2. the subject does not appear to recognize the camera taking their picture. I think it is really hurtful to expose people like this, and rate them.

The first thing that came to my mind looking at the "Worst Don'ts" gallery is "this is so high school and petty." It reminds me of how the snobbish pretty people in school did mean things to the other kids just because they deemed them ugly, different, or weird. Now granted, the outfits on these overweight women are not fashionable and do not flatter them at all, however, does it make it right to exploit them in this "Worst Don't" gallery without their permission? I don't think so. At minimum, this "Worst Don't" gallery is a "Click Don't."
