I'm going to try something new to see how it works out, but starting today, I am going to expand upon the subject of food and healthy eating by reviving my blog Noshtopia, "a splendid place for healthy tasty nibbles." Now, those of you who have followed me since day one, know that Noshtopia has died and come back to life twice already. I like to think of this blog as a cat with nine lives, so we're on life #3 with a new theme, so maybe we'll have a keeper this time.
The theme of Noshtopia is going to be around a concept I call, "Eating Wellness." What's that and why would me a Back in Skinny Jeans reader care? The link will take you to my full explanation, but in 10 seconds, eating wellness is creating a vibrant healthy body through cleaner eating. Cleaner eating means eating more foods closer to its natural form and/or organic, and less eating of foods loaded with food additives, preservatives, genetic engineering, or marketing made up foods like a Chalupa or a Dairy Queen Blizzard.
So you ask now, "Does that mean you are going to be food Nazi now Steph?"
Now, I'm not going to be a food purist nor wave a judgmental finger in your direction and say that you can never eat a Chalupa or a Dairy Queen Blizzard ever again because sometimes, well, sometimes you just need to partake. Life is too short, and you need to enjoy. I'm just saying, have balance, but eat more vibrantly. Personally, every holiday, I gotta get a Jack in the Box Jumbo meal because I want that Jack antennae ball with reindeer ears, and when I go on picnics sometimes I want some good old KFC because I have fond childhood memories of that particular chicken in the bucket.
You will find though that over time, the cleaner you eat, your body will adjust to the vibrant foods, and when you take a bite of that fast food, your body will have a physical repulsion to it. Yes, many of you know what I'm talking about.
As well, by eating more vibrantly and consciously, your body will
start shedding weight naturally. For example, when I gave up eating
foods that had cornstarch based sweeteners
like maltodextrin and crystalline fructose (found in Vitamin Water
among many other "health food" drinks) I found that the fat around my
gut came off faster and is staying off much easier. I also gave up my
Diet Coke obsession thus eliminating aspartame from my intake. I found not only that weight falls off easier,
but that I do not have the moodiness and irritability I used to have.
My body also just feels better. Today, just a couple sips of a DC gives
me a headache. Also, because of the rise in organics and healthy
eating, the need to eat "diet marketed foods" is diminishing. I say, "NO MORE DIET FOODS."
The particular food focus of Noshtopia will be more on nosh type foods like light meals, tasting foods, tapas, snacks, appetizers, and hors'dvoures. Did you know that Americans spend roughly $14 billion dollars a year just on snack foods? See why 7Eleven and Starbucks is so popular.
At Noshtopia, you wont' see recipes for big dishes like Filet Mignon dinners, but you would see nosh ideas to make from Filet Mignon dinner left overs. Some of the topics at Noshtopia I will cover include:
- Recipes
- Snack and nosh ideas
- How to get creative with vegetables since many of us omnivores need some inspiration in that area
- News and information concerning the healing properties of food
- Tips on making better food choices
- Nosh food product reviews.
- Food preparation and organization
- Tips & How-tos on various things related to food.
- Restaurants and how to eat healthier on the go
- LOTS of pictures of yummy food. The majority of the food photography will be by me or invited guests. I want to also help aspiring photographers or photo enthusiasts like myself who just like to shoot food pics.
So that's Noshtopia in a nutshell, and I am very excited! As usual, I am open to hearing any tips, ideas, or insights from you all.
