Over at The Everyday Blogger, I wrote, "An Everyday Perspective: Are all Bloggers Journalists?" answering the question on whether all bloggers are journalists because there is a school of thought that says, yes.
Therefore, that means that we bloggers have to abide ourselves by the exact same rules as journalists in big media which includes the idea that getting paid by a brand, company, or agency to blog about their product or service is unethical even if you are forthright and fully disclose.
This whole discussion came up because Kmart paid some bloggers with a $500 gift card to go shop and then blog about what they bought, and then offer up a $500 giveaway to one lucky reader. The critics unleashed because "journalists" which in their minds includes bloggers are not supposed to get paid to shill. It's unethcial.
I disagree, so go read, and let me know your thoughts.
