Mop-topped, gray-haired Taylor Hicks wins American Idol. Congratulations!
I found this mortifying. On the front page of Yahoo, the headline reads, "Gray-haired Hicks crowned "American Idol." It then goes on to talk about "The Mop Top." Why is the focus on his looks and not his talent? Why do you have to make him sound like a geriatric when he's only 29? This guy wins ones the biggest prizes on reality TV, quite an achievement, and the first adjective used to describe him is about his hair. So, it's gray. It's not like he's got Donald trump hair, or Don King hair.
Are we that obsessed with looks that we cannot even take a moment to congratulate the guy on his talent, and not his "flaw." Geez media! How about "The Talented Taylor Hicks", "The Soulful Taylor Hicks", or "The about to become fricking rich and famous Taylor Hicks." Poor guy. Can we let him stand in the limelight and trumpet his amazing voice?
I'll be one of the first to say it, "Cheers! To Taylor Hicks, the gifted American Idol champ!"
Update: Now this is much better. This morning on the front page of Yahoo is "Soul singer Hicks crowned Idol." Very nice ;-)
