Is your car your second
dining room, kitchen table, or cafeteria? America
Sharing one of my dirty
little secrets, I know that one of the contributing factors to my extra
poundage is the fact that I eat in my car, A LOT. Sometimes, I can’t help it.
There is a joy in eating in my car, and one reason is that no one else is
around to see what I’m eating. I can avoid the judgments and stares, although
really, I know no one around me cares. My ego does, however. And, I’m not
alone. You’ve seen it before where you are either parked at a park, beach, or
even the parking lot at work, and you’ll glance over to see other people
sitting in their cars munching. Many of us will eat in the car simply because
we are in a rush during the work day. We shimmy through the drive thru, grab a
quick burger and fries, and then eat and drive to our next engagement.
In most cases the type of
food that you are eating in the car is fast food or junk food, not only because
it’s easier to get and eat, but because, again, the car lets you eat in
private. No one sees you chowing down on that triple patty burger melt when you
are supposed to be on the South Beach Diet. The car is the closet, when it
comes to food, away from home, and drive-thrus make it WAY easy for us to be
car-closet eaters.
Truth be told, take an
inventory and see just how often you eat in your car. Eating in your car is a
lifestyle choice that does contribute to excess weight. Next time you drive to
the park to eat lunch, get out of the car and eat on the grass or better yet at
a picnic table with other people. You’ll never know who you might meet.
