Woo-hoo! Back in Skinny Jeans is TypePad's Featured blog for Sunday, October 15. We are deeply humbled.
The write up they did for us was so elegantly written, and made my heart smile. The folks at TypePad pointed out something that is the heartbeat of what I am trying to do here, and that is helping others stand up to the unrealistic standards of beauty our society, mainly advertising, the media, and the fashion world, is inflicting on us.
Beauty in of itself is not bad. Makeup, shoes, clothes, bags and glamor are fun parts of being a girl and we need not stop using or buying these things. What we need to remember though is that these things do not make us who we are. Our self esteem and self value is not determined by a pretty face or outfit. The glamor will not make our lives "better" because we are prettier on the outside. I learned this lesson the hard way, and really, at the end of the day, you are better off working on making the inside pretty. People never forget those who touched their hearts and made a difference in their lives.
Life is also meant to be joyful and fun which is why I like to infuse humor along with the seriousness. Sometimes we just need to laugh and get a little snarky at the ridiculousness we/people will go to in the pursuit of good looks and beauty.
Thank you all again for taking the time to visit Back in Skinny Jeans and contribute to the conversation. I am very grateful!
P.S. One of the things that makes TypePad really beautiful to me is their customer service. Every time I have had needed help or needed an answer to a seemingly asanine question, the customer service folks at TypePad have been responsive and personable. I love that you get to interact with a real human, and nice ones to boot.
