Victoria's Secret recently had their big fashion show at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. The whole show will be on CBS on December 5th. I don't know of any other event that makes women feel more "not good enough" or creates an unrelenting bar for beauty than this extravaganza. I mean this is no normal fashion show. This is a whole show about Panty-topia.
Look at these girls. As you look at this image, what feelings, and thoughts are starting to pop up for you? Me. I think, how can anyone live up to this image? Is this supposed to motivate me to go buy undies and bras?
Yeah, yeah, it's supposed to be a fantasy because the real us is not as exciting as this. Someone's sprinkled pretty-dust all over me, and now I'm in Shangri-la-ti-bra.
Right now, as weak as it sounds, I just want to curl up in bed and hide under the covers. I'm a smart, talented, funny, caring, and giving women, and yet images like this can make me forget in an instance all my other wonderful traits. Fortunately, I don't forget or devalue those qualities of mine, but again the pretty spell has me under.
Giselle Bundchen one of the VS models is the highest paid model in the world. Her contract with VS helped her make $30 million in 2005 alone. That's $30 million to pout and look pretty. The other VS models as well, no doubt, get paid a great deal of money to be picture pretty.
Why do we celebrate this image so and reward it with so much money when there are other people who make very little doing good works like saving lives, feeding the poor, and teaching the illiterate? I guess it's too much to get deep when talking about thongs.
