Back in October, I wrote about the hilarious ads for the Philips Norelco Body Groom.
I was seriuosly cracking up. Well, the folks promoting the Body Groom
saw my post and said, "So, would you like to try it?" I told them that
Matt, my sweetie, would love to try it out, since it's targeted more to
men. Normally, I only do product reviews on
things that I use myself, but I made an exception in this case because
I was
curious to see if the product lived up to its hype.
Right out of the box, the Body Groom is a beautifully designed product and feels really comfy in the hand. You want to hold it. In fact, if they added some rubber on the handle it would feel like one of those OXO Good Grips kitchen tools. My degree is in Product Design, so I pay close attention to the design of things, and I was impressed with the feel of the handle and the color scheme. Matt concurred.
When the Body Groom was juiced, Matt commenced with his manscaping. To note, Matt is on the Mountain Man side so he needs a grooming device that is robust. Normally, he uses a professional grade groomer because it can cut through shrubbery in the back yard. With the Body Groom, Matt experimented on every part of his body where there was hair including his twig & berries. Oh yeah baby!
This is what Matt liked:
- It feels good in the hand.
- You can use it in the shower.
- Freedom from cords. The Body Groom gets juiced up in it's cradle. It's like powering your iPod.
- It's lightweight.
- It's quieter than his industrial strength groomer.
- The lanyard strappy attachment gives you additional grip so that you can reach about an extra 6" to get to those hard to reach areas on your back.
This is what Matt thought could be improved:
- The Body Groom is better for maintenance manscaping than grooming full grown hair. When the hair is thicker and more lush it takes a lot of strokes to get smooth. The head can get clogged with the thick hair real quick.
- Matt gets a thick beard, so the heads were slightly not tough enough to get his face baby smooth. Update: It is not recommended to use the Body Groom on your face. It doesn't say you can't on the box, but the Body Groom wasn't desgined with the unique needs of the face. Perhaps, that's why Matt couldn't get a close shave.
Overall, Matt liked the Body Groom and enjoyed using it. He gave it a 4 out of 5 stars. In fact, he played with it for a few days on different parts of his body and through different stages of hair growth. He would also recommend it to his buddies.
After Matt was done, I took the Body Groom and tried some
chickscaping on myself. I was curious to see how it would work on my
body. I like the comb attachments. The hardest part of shaving for me
are my knees. I almost always cut my knees with razors. Always. I don't
like using shaving creams because to me it's just another step and I'm
lazy that way.
I took the Body Groom to my knees and it took off the hair without cutting me. I did the rest of my legs and it wasn't as close as a razor but you can't cut or nick yourself with this thing. That was exciting! And like Matt, I liked the fact that I could take the Body Groom to the shower. Scaping is so much easier and cleaner in the tub.
So, as far as being dual useful for couples, I would give a thumbs
up. You can get the Body Groom at Target
for $34.99 (price as of today). Thanks Philips Norelco for sending me and Matt a Body Groom. We
will definitely keep using it and "shave everywhere!"
