Yesterday I
went to go visit my regular blog reads, and was over at MamaVISION’s. Her current
post was Bye, Bye Ana & Mia, and in her post she was highlighting some of
the inspiring comments she has received from her readers on the subject of Ana
& Mia. For those of you not familiar with the terms, Ana is the code name
for Anorexia and Mia is the name for Bulimia.
One of the
highlighted comments was from Leah, a regular reader of MamaVISION.com who has
been in recovery for Ana. Her partner Emily even commented on the Bye, Bye Ana
& Mia post. She stated that she and Leah would come to the blog almost
everyday because they loved Mama’s uplifting messages. Emily’s comment was left
on Jan. 6, and Leah wasn’t there to join her because she was in the hospital
for things related to her Anorexia. I too commented on the post. It was just
like any other blog day.
Leah, at
the young age of 25, however, passed away on Jan. 8, two days after the post. Mama
has written a personal memorial here.
This is
devastating and heart breaking news. Anorexia and Bulimia are very serious and
very real issues not to be taken lightly. It’s not just the models and starlets
who suffer from eating disorders. Regular girls just trying to live regular
lives suffer just as much.
I didn’t
know Leah but from what Mama has told me, Leah was very hopeful about her
recovery and working very hard to regain her health and vibrance. Mama played a
part in helping to give Leah some support and inspiration. As a blogger, you
can never know the true impact that your writing can have on people, but if you
have something in your heart that you want to say then share it. Your words may
bring some comfort, love, or understanding to a kindred spirit in need.
Please join
me in sending prayers to Leah’s family and friends. Thank you.
