If you're like me, I get Chinese take out often because 1. I love Chinese food but can't cook it like the restaurant, and 2. Sometimes I just want to eat out of the box in front of the tube watching Grey's Anatomy and CSI. Takeout can get real fattening and artery clogging so, here are some tips to order Chinese food so that it is healthier for you.

Natalia Vodianova is the latest supermodel posing for Calvin Klein underwear which is fine, but I'm trying to figure out why they choose some kiddie p*rn type look & feel to sell undies. There are more pictures of Natalia at her special CKU site. Natalia is 25 years old in real life, but in this ad campaign she looks like some 16 year old high school sophomore posing for some pervy old sugar daddy. "I'll buy you some expensive underwear if you pose for me sweetheart." Ugh!
The video that goes along with this promotion, "Natalia's Room" is equally creepy in that you get that voyeur feeling of peeking in on Natalia rolling around in bed in her undies like she's getting ready to do the nasty. Major icky!
I'm very bummed about this campaign because I really like how Calvin Klein makes underwear. I have a collected a whole drawer full myself over the years. What do you do when you like the product but not the advertising?

Tierney, a plus size model with Ford Models show us the YouTube Ford tip of the day: Pam cooking spray dries your nails like the salon. Who knew? More importantly, how scary. You can cook food on the same thing that can instantly dry your acrylic nails. Yikes!

As I get older, I have become more conscious about what I put on my skin, so I have been paying more attention to reading labels on lotions, creams, and make-up. I am most concerned about using creams and lotions that are not loaded with chemicals because whatever you put on your skin gets absorbed into your blood stream.
Lately, I have noticed the term "non-comedogenic." Comedogenic sounds toxic, huh? It turns out that "non-comedogenic" means "doesn't clog your pores." Ingredients such as mineral oil, cocoa butter and petroleum when put on your skin like your face, can clog up your pores. When that clogging happens, you can get acne issues.
For vibrant skin, it's best to let your pores breathe, and not drown them with oils that will plug them up, so look on the lables of your current creams and lotions. Let your skin be more alive. Ahhh!

I took yesterday off from blogging to enjoy my birthday. Woo-hoo! I started off the festivities the day before with lunch at Sino at Santana Row with good gal pal Naomi. We had dim sum and fruity cocktails. This is the Lychee Sangria potion I had. I'm such a cheap date, I was getting tipsy after only half the drink.
B-day morning, Matt woke me up with a huge hug in bed and serenaded me with his version of Marilyn Monroe's "Happy Birthday Mr. President" a la Adam Sandler's voice. He exchanged Mr. President with "Mrs. Birthday Girl." OMG! I was laughing hysterically. Matt is quite the comedian.
Matt planned out a day full of surprises. First up was an hour massage followed by a Swedish shower. Yeah, like you, when I first heard Swedish shower the first thing that popped into my head was images of raining meatballs and short-shorts. So, I watch too many American Pie type movies. My masseuse was this tiny woman named Tiffany. Normally, I like massages really deep, so I usually get men masseuses because they can do more pressure, but man o' man, I have to tell you, this small woman kneaded me like chewy dough. I could not believe the pack in her punch. All those knots I have from endless blogging were rolled right out of my neck and shoulders. It was heaven!
Next was lunch at one of my favorites Greens Restaurant in San Francisco. We live about 40 minutes from the city, so it was a nice haul up there. For more details on the birthday lunch at Greens see, my post with pictures here. It was supposed to rain but I asked the sky gods for no rain, and I got my wish. In fact, for a brief moment, blue skies made an appearance. Here's me and Mattie at Greens. Isn't he adorable? I just love this man ;-)
We got back home to rest up before dinner, and I took a terrific deep REM nap. Honestly, as I get older, I get very excited about nappy time. For dinner, I wanted something real simple, so we got slices of New York style pizza at a hole in the wall near our pad. All in all, my birthday was wonderful. All my family and close friends called up with happy wishes. The thing I love about birthdays is that it's the one day of the year where you can honestly say, "It's all about me today" and feel absolutely no guilt. I eat it up every year.

For my birthday lunch, Matt took me to one of my favorite restaurants, Greens at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco. Greens is a famous vegetarian restaurant, but their food is so incredibly fabulous and healthy that you don't even miss meat. Really. This place is that good. If you visit San Francisco, Greens is a must place to eat. Below are pictures of the yummy dishes we ate yesterday.
Main dish: Thai Stir-fry with Jasmine Rice
Main dish: Mozzarella, eggplant, and sweet pepper sandwich

Rap mogul, Russell Simmons wants to make rap less misogynistic and racist
Did you watch Oprah last week when she had Russell Simmons, founder of Def Jam Records, and other moguls in the rap industry discuss misogyny and the sexist treatment of women in rap music? The show was the second part of a 2 part show where Oprah and company talked about the Don Imus situation including how rapper culture is derogatory towards women. If you missed it, here's a recap of the show I'm talking about it.
What I found interesting about the show was that there was a group of female students from Wellman college with Gail who satellited in from campus, and these ladies basically cornered the rap execs and said, "What are you going to do?...No more talking...What action are you going to take to fix the problem of misogyny and sexism in the rap industry?" I applauded the girls for sticking to their guns, and making these moguls declare some kind of action.
So now, Russell Simmons has very publicly asked the recording and broadcasting industries for a uniform standard for eliminating offensive words from rap songs like "Ho", "Bitch" and "N*gger," considering these terms extreme curse words. By holding the rappers, the producers, and broadcasters to a higher standard, the rap industry can start demonstrating corporate and social responsibility.
There has been mixed reactions to Simmons' declaration. The big music companies like Sony, Universal Music Group, and Atlantic records are keeping mum, for the moment, and Joan Morgan, author of the book "When Chickenheads Come Home to Roost: A Hip-Hop Feminist Breaks It Down," says,
Those are some tough words from Ms. Morgan but I agree with her. Just calling for the elimination of three words is not going to even make a dent in what is a monumental issue in the rap/hip-hop culture. It's like trying to put a band-aid on a severed limb gushing blood. But, I give Russell Simmons at least some credit for starting some action. What will be more telling is, in time, how much he actually he uses his power and influence to make real lasting changes. As well, one man can only do so much, there has to be a united group effort made by the entire rap/hip-hop industry. Let's see what happens.
