Helen Mirren, no holds barred, says that women, like all women in fashion, are to blame for pushing teenagers into eating disorders and an obsession with wearing a size 0. Dame Mirren says:
"I blame my own sex vehemently on this. It is women who run the magazines and women who editorialise and women who make the decisions. I think it is completely iniquitous to have incredibly skinny girls on the runway. A lot of the girls are horrifically thin and of course they have a problem.
Mostly the fashion industry chooses to turn a blind eye. "
Those are some real fightin' words, and really fantastic coming from a widely respected and incredibly talented woman. But she's right. The majority of who decides what goes in the magazines and on the runways are women. Shouldn't a sister be helping the other sisters out? Apparently, not when it comes to the business of fantasy.
Guess Ms. Mirren won't be invited to any Vogue tea parties in the near future. But so what. We love a saucy Brit who speaks her mind.
