John's story:
I started my journey from fat to fit back in August at 295 pounds and as I write this today I am at 262 pounds for a total loss of 33 pounds. I’ve lost four inches from my waist, don’t snore as much at night and have a ton more energy. I still have a long way to go to goal (185 pounds) and I am taking it slow – my goal for 2008 is to get down to 220. It took me years to pack on these pounds and I am satisfied with taking years to get it all off. And then to keep it off!
At this point in my journey I have had the success I have had not by implementing any strict diet but simply by recognizing where I needed to make adjustments and doing so slowly. For example...
...I have built up a great support network ...
When I first started back in August, I would routinely eat two Sausage Egg McMuffins and a hash brown for breakfast. The first thing I did was cut that down to one sandwich. It didn’t take me long to realize I was still full eating one. Then I cut the hash brown out. Nope, still full. I switched to a regular Egg McMuffin. And finally I was able to break my McDonald’s habit by eating healthy at home and just having a coffee in the morning at the Golden Arches. I took it slow but I learned a lot in doing so. I similarly optimized habitual lunches and dinners.
Perhaps the most important part of my weight loss journey is my blog and the great support network I have built up. I have a great bunch of regular readers whose blogs I also visit and together we are succeeding.
Slowly, but surely!
