Bravo to Jezebel's New Year's resolution "Calling it Quits on Nasty Nitpicking"
In an uplifting move to start off the new year, Jezebel, one of the largest blogs on women's topics, has put their Manola down and said explicitly that Jezebel will not allow any nasty nitpicking comments about the physical appearance of the women they post about. It's always been their policy to censor out the nastiness but no one really knew. I sure did not.
And by the physical, we are talking about any comment referring to a woman's body, whether she gained weight or not, whether she's looking old and haggard, etc. The fashion and the woman's actions are fair game, but no derogatory comments about her appearance are allowed. Hallelujah!
Personally, one of the things that really bothers me online, mostly in the celeb blogs, is the cruel, and unnecessary comments criticizing or putting down a woman's appearance, and as many of you have seen yourselves, some of these comments, truly are hateful, misogynistic, and down right abhorrent. Scary is that common offenders are other women. Ladies, let's strive to be kinder to each other.
Kudos to all the blogs who hold their audience to a higher standard of behavior! What other blogs do you know of that do a good job of keeping their reader comments to a high standard?
