Meet my new best friend, the Adaptive Movement Trainer. Kick ass cardio with less stress on the knees
If you follow me on Twitter, I share what exercise I've done for the day, and lately since I have been giving my knee a break from running, I have been spending the bulk of my cardio time on my new best friend the Adaptive Movement Trainer (AMT) from Precor. I LOVE this thing!
I'm telling you people, this piece of equipment is probably one of the best designed cardio machines I have ever been on. The Precor folks really took the time to think about design and how people can get more workout with variety.
One thing I really don't like about ellipticals is that the range of your leg motion is limited. You can change the incline and the resistance levels, but your leg range is pretty much set. On the treadmill, you can sprint or walk, but you can change how much your legs spread out. With the elliptical, your legs spread to what the machine is set to.
But all that is different on the AMT. You can simulate stair climbing to Gazelle like sprinting. You can go fast then go slow. You can set the resistance from nothing up into the 20's. There are all kinds of pre-set program to chose from or you can do manual. This machine is really fun because you can do so many things on it, and best yet, you can get a majorly serious cardio workout without hurting the knees. This AMT is awesome for those with knee issues, and it's a great cross-trainer for those who are marathon/half marathon training. In my opinion, you can get a better workout on the AMT than the elliptical, not to mention it's more fun.
The AMT is one of the newest cardo machines from Precor, and my gym got the AMTs right before Christmas as part of the new re-model. Ask your gym if they plan on getting any of these puppies, and if not, tell them they must. If you have seen this new machine in your gym, and haven't tried it yet, go jump on it ASAP!
