Captain's Log: 03132008 Day #12 of 30 Total Workout Time: 45 min @ 2:10pm
You know those days when you don't do a thing hair or makeup wise cause you're feeling lazy, and then miraculously everyone tells you you look hot. You notice people checking you out as you do your errands like grocery shopping or getting a Carmel Machiatto at Starbucks? How does that happen? To give you an idea, I took a picture of myself so you have a reference. Cheese!
I had one of those yesterday. I went to the gym for the first time since I started the Great Walking Experiment and I almost didn't go because I didn't get to sleep til 5am. I've been having the worse case of insomnia this week. I got to the gym and worked out on my favorite Precor Adaptive Movement machine for 45 minutes, and was beat. I took my shower and blow dried my hair but I just felt too lazy to put on makeup or even brush my hair. I just hand squeezed the hair.
Now normally, I would never walk out of my gym locker room without makeup because there is this really cute trainer there who I have a mild crush on, and of course I always want to look my shiny best. But yesterday, I just didn't care. I also didn't feel like dressing up much so I just threw on a long sleeve white t-shirt and a pair of Levis. Although feeling physically beat, I was feeling good inside because I finally published the post of why I left my career in tech. So many people said nice things, and I felt a heavy load lifted.
So, I walk out of the locker room heading for the exit, and cute trainer saw me. Normally I would panic a bit because I'm being seen without the face paint, but I remained calm and continued to walk tall. I noticed though that he was staring at me. Not gawking staring but like a subtle "Hey who is that hottness" kind of staring. I smiled back at him. Ooo, it felt so high school in a fun way. When I got to the door, another cute guy was right in front of me and he stood and held the door open for me. I said thank you and smiled at him too, and he said your welcome and gave me a big smile. Man, I was feeling like the belle of the ball.
Then it dawned on me. I'm not wearing any makeup. I didn't even comb my hair, and I'm just wearing some plain white t-shirt and jeans, and yet guys are checking me out like I look stunning. Then another thing hit me, and I asked myself, "Is makeup and hair a necessity to look stunning? Why do we automatically assume that you need to glam up in order to look hot? Perhaps a glowing natural beauty is enough." This is where the beauty industry brainwashes us to think no. They keep telling us we need to have makeup and a cute hairstyle.
Well, there must be something to the natural glowing theory because after the gym, I went to Whole Foods, and the same thing happened there. I noticed several men checking me out in a polite subtle way. There was no meat market stuff going on, just gentlemanly observation. Even the butchers at the meat counter were overly attentive to me. Whatever mojo I was sending out that day was pretty cool. But I don't know how I did it. Any ideas on how can I do it again? Any theories on those days when we think we look like a mess yet others think we look hot?
