Better Than Nothin' is the concept that anything you do related to achieving your goals even if it is a tiny bitty step like using one less packet of sugar in your coffee, or yelling at one less driver on the road, is better than doing zero. Tiny accomplishments add up over time, and are so unnoticeable that you avoid poking your Inner Resistance Monster.
One thing most of us need to do is get better at hydrating whether you're exercising or not. And when I say hydrating, I mean H20 folks. Soda, teas, juices, your triple shot Americano do not count. Sorry! Water is essential for vibrant health. Here's 3 easy tips to start sipping the aqua :
- If you only drink one glass of water a day now, leaping to 8 glasses every day like what is popularly recommended is too much of a change in a short period of time, and will trigger the IR Monster because he'll start complaining about how he and then you hate going pee all the time. No one likes doing the pee pee dance what feels like every 5 minutes. Start by just upping your water content by one glass each day, so now you're having 2/day. Do that until it becomes a normal habit, then add another glass so you're up to 3/day. Work your way up slowly to the 8 glasses slowly so you will have better long term success.
- When you eat out, drink that glass of water the waiter pours for you first thing. Get it out of the way. I've been doing this more often. Not only are you hydrating but you are cutting down the possibility of over eating because the water will start filling you up. If you are having cocktails, drink more water as the water will help dilute the booze and help you lessen the degree of a hang over.
- If you don't like the taste of water by itself, then add flavoring from fresh fruits like lime, lemon, orange (I like blood oranges), tangerine, pineapple, or whatever fruit you like. I'll add cucumbers like what they do at the spa. Adding mint leaves is a nice twist too.
